east to west is about horizons. facing the sea, east or west, at dusk or dawn, it never appears the same. we talk about well known territory, the world of move d and benjamin brunn. following a number of collaborations, now for the first time the two present individual works on one record, back to back. this 4-track split ep is a must-have and collector s item: ermitage, a collaboration of moufang, vladimir daronkin and dmitry cherednichenko, recorded in st. petersburg. eastman from moufang s legendary kunststoff album, sounding as fresh as it did 20 years ago received a new finish by dubplates & mastering. brunn makes extensive use of spoken word, an unusual style for him, in da hulk. for d k dates from his tr-707 period and mimics a party in a submarine.

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it�s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it�s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!

hailing from berlin, but spiritually from chi-town, snuff crew are back in your area with some freshly served up basement goodies once again. following on from basement jams #1, from all the way back in 2011, the boys bring us tracks with the same playful nature as before but, dare i say it, they go even harder this time. stalwart fans of the first release can stop reading now because it will almost certainly be a blind-buy for you, four tracks obviously engineered for use in the club, whether its the massive kick in �what it is� or the ravey acid lead in �88cents�. the jams on the b-side may do the most damage. �remember� holds absolutely nothing back, with its arpeggiated bassline lead and crisper than crisp 909 drum programming. analog is a term that gets bandied about all the time nowadays, ever since so many young producers became enamoured with tape compression and hiss delay plug-ins. i know snuff crew are real analog guys though, in sound and mentality, so hearing basement jams #2 for the first time had me so excited once again.

toxic is the name of the first lamp, in a series of more to come, on the cover made by remy the feyter � glass blower artist. the tracks are composed by dieter vorderhake and are a natural inspiration of 20 years of techno influence. liroconite and cornubite are natural stones with the same colors as the lamp, hence the names of the tracks. tingeling, the name of the third track, is a dutch word which will translate itself more or less into a ding-dong sound. this sound is one of the prominent sounds in the track which announces a change in the track. it is inspired on the sound the metro doors make in amsterdam when they close. the metro is ready to continue its journey� so is the song.

now already almost a year has gone by since �inspiration�, the collaboration between jah wobble and singer pj higgins has come out on sonar kollektiv. with �chaingang (remixes)� we get a further renewal of one of the eight tracks off the album. for instance utrecht, netherlands based multi-instrumentalist and producer pitto gets down to work to morph the song into an eight-minute spheric techno extravaganza. some sort of a teaser for his upcoming album on sonar kollektiv later this year (although it will sound completely different). also releasing an album on sonar kollektiv in 2015 is producer marlow from weimar. his voodoo version of �chaingang� draws nearer to the original and incorporates the jubilee style gospel chanting to a hypnotically impelling rhythm. at the right time at the right place this remix will cause outmost frenzy on the dancefloor.

after debuting earlier this year on a collaborative split with max_m for parachute records, italian producer wrong assessment lands on m_rec ltd with his very own 12. disillusionment is a tightly programmed techno tool packed with groove. there�s a warm and almost melodic bass line here, clearly indebted to the detroit groove, but darkened as it has become custom with italian producers and their sound. the loops that develop around it are of the hypnotic kind� the sound that recently made m_rec ltd label of the month on resident advisor. parachute affiliate cw/a (already involved in clockwork and avatism) delivers a prime time remix that transform the original into an aggressive techno anthem. playing intelligently with the elements of the original, the remix delineates a very interesting narrative as it fluctuates between harshness, funk and psychedelia. expect major playtime. on the flip side, �persecutory beliefs� is basically a tribute to all proper techno dancefloors. with tension and tightness, the track revolves around a forward driving ravey refrain perfected for those late night sessions. closing the ep, �inner turmoil� follows a similar path, but gets druggier and more crepuscular as it evolves. like throughout the entire ep, there�s a love for proper 90s techno at play here. dark stuff for late, late nights. is it clear that max_m and his label m_rec ltd have discovered major talent in wrong assessment. expect more great things throughout 2015.

the mysterious duo project overall severity landed on fabrizio lapiana s attic music with an intense three track ep called -helene-, second installment of the new hurricane series. on the first side, in -vario 7288- they make an intricate journey immersed in a dark noir melody with powerful techno rhythms and plenty of alien sounds. -unable to assess- on the b-side turns into a hypnotic-linear sound focused on an obsessive and scientific atmosphere where the loopy drums light the way. an ambient flow closes this work, -emotional harm- is an evocative result of accurate sound design full of bleep, breaks and distorted chords.

back at it again, taking the true essence of the �jacking� sound of chicago house and putting it�s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, �volatile.� warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! �volatile� starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that�s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is �killin,� with it�s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, �broken siren� is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, �electric current� best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums
